The Heart of Ambivalence

Family
Early childhood
You’re OK,
I’m not OK.

Outer calm
Inner chaos
Gaining hawk’s winged vision,
I see it:

A divided landscape,
A bifurcated nest,
Twisting into a cyclone
Of scattered belonging

Save in the center,
Where there’s stillness.
Not either/or,
Both/and.

Polarity melting into
Waves of empathy.
Empathy
And Self-love.

I stay still,
Until moved.
And I move,
From stillness.
